 NOTE MAKING

Note making is a skill to record important details with the essence of information.

It saves time and your energy as it gives a quick glimpse of more information. 

Note making skill improves with regular practise. 


The good note helps you to -


  • Stay active and engaged during lectures, reading and revisions.

  • Understand what you are learning.

  • Clarify your thinking.

  • Be selective and identify the key ideas.

  • Remember the material studied.

  • Organize ideas and make connections.

  • Plan and structure written assignments.

  • Review and revise before the examination.


Features of Note -


  • Best note gives a clear understanding of the concept.

  • It  develops meaningful learning skills.

  • It provides better understanding of a topic.

  • Different styles or methods highlight important facts.

  • It provides a perpetual record.

  • It is useful as a quicker go-through for theoritical subjects like OCM & Economics.

  • It distinguishes between main points and details.


Procedure of Note Making -


  • Read the passage provided.

  • Underline the important sentences. It helps to make headings and subheadings.

  • Make a rough note first so as to get an idea.

  • Organize them in logical order or sequence for the final note.

  • Use the appropriate note making format.

  • Do not change the idea or the message of the passage.


Points to remember for note-making format :


  • Avoid using long sentences as headings or titles.

  • Never lose the main idea of the passage.

  • Ignore information which is less important.

  • Be brief, clear and specific.

  • Use logical sequences of information.

  • Use suitable design for presentation.

  • Do not keep any blank  or incomplete point.

  • Do not include your own understanding.

  • Use abbreviations.

  • Make your note more memorable by using features or styles.


Difference between Note-taking & Note- making :


    Note-making and Note-taking are different skills.

            Note-taking 

             Passive process -

  • contains main points and supporting details.

  • At a glance’ view with complete  information.

  • Useful in lectures/ while reading.

            Note-making 

             Active process -

  • Focused writing skill

  • Concrete and infused presentation.

  • Connects all relevant concepts and words.

  • Selective style or  chosen mode of presentation.
